Pueblo Leather and Maintenance

Pueblo – enjoy the most dynamic transformation of leather

“Pueblo” is leather with dynamic aging characteristics created by the prestigious Italian tannery “Badalassi Carolo”. Utilizing the same base that makes “Liscio”, the tanners can fully utilize all the rare cow shoulder leather parts, even the less pristine ones, and transform it into a unique leather material unlike any other. To disguise and elevate the slight scratches and wrinkles, skilled craftsmen give the leather a scrub treatment using a special golden scraper that raises the exterior surface. This creates a suede-like look but retains the sophisticated texture of genuine leather.

Because the leather is oil-smoothed, the material retains the charming scent that comes from infusing the leather with cow leg oil repeatedly in the tanning process. Pueblo leather has the best of both worlds: the luxurious leather material and down-to-earth rustic look. The roughened surface shows the varying shades of the leather material but will grow supple and moist through daily use. Pueblo leather will bear your daily use in the most exciting way, as it takes on patina faster than all other leather.

The unique underside marks of genuine leather

Open your Pueblo Ring Leather Binder and you might notice some interesting color bands and texture differences on the inside. Although the leather is picked from the rarest part of the entire cow leather, they still harbor some irregularities from piece to piece—not cookie cutter to have the same exterior or consistent look. To ensure the leather is the right thickness to create PLOTTER Ring Leather Binders, craftsmen meticulously went over each piece of leather and shaved the underside so it’s even throughout. Consider the unique markings proof of manual expertise and not one Ring Leather Binder has the same interior look!

From rough beauty to smooth patina

When you first touch Pueblo leather, you will feel the charming rough texture of the raised fiber from the leather through the buffing process. However, the more you use it, the raised surface will lay flat and smooth while absorbing oil from your touch. This leather material has the most unique dynamic aging process compared to other leather on the market. The suede-like surface will become smooth and glossy, transforming into the desired patina that leather enthusiasts love about leather products.

How to care for your Pueblo Ring Leather Binder?

If you handle Pueblo leather daily, you will be rewarded with visible transformation as the leather surface takes in body oil from your fingers and the environment. If there is any dust, simply maintain it by wiping it with a soft cloth or brush lightly with a leather brush made of horse or pig hair.

As with all genuine leather, moisture such as rain or liquids other than water (coffee, tea, etc.) may cause stains. Humidity and sweat may also cause the leather to evolve differently, and keep in mind that on lighter-colored leather, stains are more visible. Color transfer and discoloration are inevitable with leather, especially when it is wet or sustains abrasion, so please handle it with care when carrying it in a light-colored bag.

If the ring leather binder had been stored away for a long time and you feel like the texture is getting dry, we recommend applying a small amount of leather cream and gently buff it into the surface. Try it in an inconspicuous place first before applying it to the whole surface. Do note that too much application may result in stains, discolorations, or sudden changes in texture.

General tips and precautions for leather storage and maintenance

  • When storing, make sure that no sweat, moisture, or dirt remains.
  • Store in a well-ventilated place away from high temperature and humidity and direct sunlight.
Also, take it out from time to time and dry it in the shade. If stored without use for a long time, there is a risk of mold and discoloration due to humidity and temperature.
  • Please note that if left in a place exposed to ultraviolet rays for a long period, it may fade or discolor. (The same applies to long-term storage on a bookshelf or desk.)
  • Avoid contact with other chemical materials such as leather products and vinyl products as it may cause color transfer or discoloration.
  • Avoid using thinner, benzine, or alcohol as it may harden or discolor. Also, please note that even if it is not these undiluted solutions, the use of products containing ingredients may cause discoloration or hardening. Examples of familiar products that contain alcohol are wet tissues, alcohol disinfectant wipes, or antiperspirant sheets, etc.
